The Chalke Valley Link Scheme
officially commenced on 1 January
1997 and now covers an area from
Coombe Bissett/Homington to
Ebbesbourne Wake/Alvediston/Berwick St John.
The Link Scheme is an independent
voluntary organisation managed by
local people responding to the needs
of the local community. The purpose
is to help with any problem, no
matter how small, in a local,
personal and friendly way - e.g.
transport, collecting prescriptions,
light gardening, changing library
books, companionship etc. In the
first year the scheme received 300
requests for transport and 20
requests for other aspects of care.
For planning purposes (ie volunteer
drivers) the area is divided into
four, based on the community/parish
area. The scheme is financed by
voluntary contributions (it is hoped
that this will eventually be 80% of
revenue), fund raising and grant
aid.
Telephone: 01722 780800 for
transport requests.
Telephone:
01722 780801 for care co-ordinator
requests.
